History around every corner<\/h2> \t

Sardinia<\/strong> has its own, unique history: the nuraghi<\/strong>, thousands-year-old towers of stacked stone built without mortar, exist nowhere else in the world. The best-known complex,<\/span> Su Nuraxi di Barumini<\/a><\/strong>, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 and bears witness to a civilisation that existed before the Greeks and Romans ever set foot on the island. It’s fascinating, but concentrated<\/strong>: you’ll find it mainly in specific places.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sicily’s history<\/strong>, by contrast, is everywhere, layer upon layer. Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans and Spaniards all left their mark<\/strong>, sometimes literally in the same building:<\/span> Arab-Norman Palermo<\/a><\/strong>, itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the best example of this. You’ll eat well on both islands, just very differently. Sardinia has its own cuisine<\/strong>, with dishes such as culurgiones (stuffed pasta), porceddu (roast suckling pig) and pane carasau, a crisp flatbread that’s been baked for centuries.
